Tarayan Foundation Fair 2007

The Tarayana Foundation fair which was held on the 4th of May 2007 in the Clock Tower Square to commemorate it’s four years birthday with the theme to provide wholesome fun, food, information and entertainment to the whole family. Tarayana foundation was launched 4 years ago by His Majesty the Fifth King, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchul, then the crown prince on the 4th May 2003.

The fair saw the rural artisan representatives from the local communities selling their products such as Bamboo Product, handcrafted items and so.
The fair also had the information and documentation stall where there are footage of the ongoing efforts to document rural knowledge and the traditional way of life. There was kids show were young boys and girls showed their talent

The fund raise from the fair will be ploughed back into the rural communities through targeted projects and programs identified by the communities, to improve opportunities at the grass root level.

Tarayan Foundation is a non-profit organization, wholeheartedly working to uplift and enhance the lives of people in rural communities in Bhutan. The Foundation complements and supplements the efforts of the Royal Government of Bhutan in poverty reduction by espousing the National Goal, Bhutan 2020 : A vision for Peace, Prosperity and Happiness.

Tarayana Foundation was established in 2003 by Her Majesty the Queen, Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, as an potential solution to the problems of the disadvantaged that she witnessed first hand during her tours to the remotes places of Bhutan. The foundation as helps small communities to achieve self sufficiency through small and targeted interventions.

Objectives:
1. Help the Poor Rural communities become self-reliant and self sufficient through the initiation and establishment of income generating activities.
2. Promote Artisan skills through the establishment of training center and facilitation of sale of products.
Enable Children from disadvantaged and poor families to pursuer education through support grants for basic need of uniforms, shoes, and other necessary expenses.
3. Provide greater economic security and dignity of life to vulnerable individuals through grant of maintenance allowances
4. Instill the values of volunteerism in the Bhutan Youths.
